Todd, Shane

Shane K. Todd, age 49 of Kewaunee, passed away August 4, 2016 at Bellin Memorial Hospital, after a long battle with cancer. He was born on December 1, 1966 in Iowa to Harold (Charlie) and Beverly (Bryant) Todd.

He grew up in Morning Sun, IA where he graduated from Morning Sun High School in 1985. He played baseball, wrestled and his senior year he toured Europe with a South Dakota Choir. He also served in the U. S. Army.

After service, he moved to Davenport where he had met Susan Froehlich and her daughter, Tia-Marie Smith. They were married on May 22, 1993. He was last employed with John Deere at Moline Works in Moline, IL. In 2010 he and his family moved to Kewaunee, WI to retire because they loved the beauty of the area. He enjoyed fishing, cooking and playing video games with his children and grandson.

Shane was diagnosed with cancer in 2003 and was in remission for ten years. In 2011 he was offered the opportunity to participate in the TIPS from Former Smokers national commercial campaign for the CDC that launched in 2012.

Survivors include his wife, Susan; daughter, Kaylee-Marie Todd, DePere, WI; grandson, Trace Smith, Kewaunee, WI; parents: Harold (Charlie) and Beverly (Bryant) Todd, Morning Sun, IA; sister and brother-in-law: Holly and Robert Fletcher, Morning Sun, IA; mother-in-law: Jean Froehlich, Davenport, IA; numerous nieces and nephews; his dog, Ginger. He was preceded in death by daughter: Tia-Marie Smith; brother: Michael Todd; father-in-law: Sidney Froehlich.

A memorial service will be held on August 20 at United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. in Morning Sun, IA.

Memorials may be made to the family or the American Cancer Society for research.

My condolences to Shane's family and friends. I work in tobacco prevention and control in Alaska, and we shared Shane's TIPS message in our cessation campaigns. His incredible generosity in his willingness to share his experience was remarkable and deeply appreciated. His bravery saved lives.

My deepest condolences to Sue and the rest of Shane's family. We worked together on the Tips From Former Smokers first campaign and again on the 5 year anniversary. Rest in peace my friend. Until we meet again...
