Luxemburg - Thomas J. Rueckl

Thomas J. Rueckl, 80, Luxemburg, died Saturday morning, February 20, 2021 at a South Florida Hospital. Tom was born on January 31, 1941, in Luxemburg to the late George and Mildred (Novak) Rueckl. On November 24, 1960 he married his high school sweetheart, Linda (Van Drisse) Rueckl, at St. Mary Church in Luxemburg. Tom attended St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from the 8th grade in 1955. He was a 1959 graduate of Luxemburg High School, where he earned multiple letters in many sports. He was Homecoming King with his "forever" Queen, Linda (Van Drisse) Rueckl. After high school, Tom attended UWGB for 2 years, then finished his education at the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science (Milwaukee) and became a licensed Funeral Director in 1963.

From an early age, Tom found a love for Luxemburg and spent most of his life serving the community. In 1970, he was instrumental in the development of Northbrook Country Club. On June 22, 1972, he became an owner of McMahon's of Luxemburg and served the community as a Funeral Director for 50 years. He was a member of the Fox River Valley Funeral Directors Association, the Wisconsin Funeral Directors Association, and the National Funeral Directors Association. He was a member and President of the Luxemburg Area Chamber of Commerce and he received the "Man of the Year" award in 1991. He was a member and President of the Luxemburg Jaycees and an officer and member of the Luxemburg Sportsman's Club. He assisted local businesses and families in his role on the Bank of Luxemburg board for 27 years, where he served as Chairman from 2003 until his retirement in 2012. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary Church, Luxemburg, where he absolutely loved singing in the choir and was a member of the Holy Name Society. He served on the first school board and coached the boys' basketball team for 8 years.

After Tom retired from the funeral business in 2005, he and Linda enjoyed their summers in Luxemburg and winters at their home away from home in St. Lucie West, FL. He also enjoyed golfing, hunting, feeding the birds, gardening, and most of all spending time with his family.

Tom's family brought him such joy. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Linda, and their 4 children, Jeff (Lynn) Rueckl, Dave (Gail) Rueckl, Tim Rueckl, and Tom "Bomber" (Nikki) Rueckl. He will be missed by his 8 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren that he loved so dearly: Christopher (Allison) Rueckl, Emily (Travis) Nichols, Jackie (Bob) Romuald, Jon (fiancé' Amanda) Rueckl, Dana (Sean) Glinski, Alex (fiancé' Alexis) Rueckl, Noah (special friend Amanda), Logan (special friend Mackenna), Becky Gerczak and Jessica (special friend Matt) Gerczak. He was fortunate to have several Great Grandchildren, as well: Trenton, Audrey, Wilder, Myles, Ethan, Kayla, Trenton, Trevor and 2 more on the way. His two sisters, Kathy (Joe) Koss, Mary (Lyle) Charles; one brother, Dick (Pam) Rueckl; two sisters in law, Mary (Jack Davies) Van Drisse, Jane Kahr; nieces, nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his step father, Anthony Dhuey, his father in law and mother in law, Norman and Beverly Van Drisse, two brothers-in-law, James Van Drisse, Fran Kahr; one great grandson, Caden Gerczak.

Sending our thoughts and prayers to Linda and her entire family. We met Tom & Linda in Port St. Lucie and we were instantly connected. We enjoyed Tom’s sense of humor, his infectious smile and especially our dinners and social gatherings. FD50YRS. He said it was for “Fine Driving’. We will miss him!

Sending our thoughts and prayers to Linda and her whole family. Tom was a true friend who always had a smile and a positive outlook no matter what challenge he was facing. As a fellow student he made sports fun and was a true team player. Luxemburg was obviously lucky to have him be such an outstanding volunteer in the community. May the many memories of Tom's life with his family help them through this difficult time. Tom was truly a "gentle" man. We will certainly miss seeing him and look forward to giving Linda a gentle hug whenever that time will come.

Linda and family, What a great life albeit shorter than wished. Growing up and close to the family, I always looked up to Tom and that never changed thru the years. There are gentlemen and gentle men. Tom was both.
When reacquainting in our BOL years, we used to chuckle about having lived on the same block as the bank which consumed our homes during expansion. Tom wore out many a pair of shoes as he traversed from the furniture store, bank and funeral home. Not many can say they owned that much turf in downtown Luxemburg.
Our deepest sympathies,

Our deepest sympathy to Linda and her whole family on Tom's passing. We have had many wonderful years working together and occasionally, but not often enough, playing together. It doesn't seem that long ago that Murcele told me about the new person she hired to help her in the funeral home and that he was soon to get married, but way too young! "You just can't tell kids anything nowadays".

To Linda, Kathy, Dick and the rest of the family: Tom's passing came as a complete surprise. Having left the burg 55 years ago, the good ole Luxemburg News kept me informed as to the happening at home, and of course the visits back. I just can not picture Tom at this age. After all these years, it now seems like yesterday that we lugged our shoulder pads and cardboard helmets for a pick up football game at the village ballfield. Of course there was a pretty good age gap in order to make it an interesting game. He had already displayed a leadership quality by taking charge in getting us together, playing, and being the referee. Having lived next to the high school I saw a lot of basketball as a youngster, but your hubby, brother, father in my view was Mr. Basketball of Luxemburg. He was the real deal. Linda, you and Tom were thee couple. We need more Tom Rueckl's in this world. Emma and I send are deepest sympathy to all. You will always have the greatest of memories, may you find your comfort in knowing he is in the greatest of hands. We will miss him too.

What a wonderful man Tom was! He will forever be remembered as a great pillar of this community, for his great smile, and for the wonderful family man he was. I have always admired and rememberd his professionalism and compassion as a funeral director; always focused and making a person feel so comfortable in a very uncomfortable situation. RIP Tom!

So very sorry to hear of his passing. Tom was one of the really good guys with his humor, warmth and kindness. My parents were blessed to have him as their neighbor many years. The path on "corn cob alley" was well worn for their frequent get togethers. It was always special to have them visit Naples. My heart goes out to the Linda and family.
