DeGuelle, Joseph Richard (Doctor Joe)

Joseph Richard DeGuelle (Doctor Joe) passed away May 2, 2013. He was born Sept. 2, 1940, in Algoma, Wisconsin, the 4th child of Josephine Virlee DeGuelle and Richard DeGuelle. He met his beloved wife, Colette Suzanne Schreiber at Hahn Air Force Base, Germany and they were married Dec. 6, 1968.

After completing four years of Air Force Service as a Captain, he was hired as one of the first Education Counselors at Hahn Air Base. Throughout the years his career progressed to Education Services Officer and eventually to Chief Education and Training Officer for Headquarters AETC and USAFE (United States Air Force in Europe). He also served as Provost of USAFE University at Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany. Joe retired from AETC Randolph Air Force Base, TX, January 2007. He also taught graduate courses for Webster University for several years.

Joe completed his elementary education at St. Mary's Catholic School in Algoma, Wis. and graduated from Algoma High School, 1958. He received his BA with a major in Philosophy from St. Norbert College, De Pere, Wis.,his Master of Science in Education, 1970, and Doctor of Education from the University of Southern California, 1989.

He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and of the ACTS retreat.

He is survived by his loving wife, Colette; son, Chris and wife, Krista in Augusta, Ga.; son, Gerard and wife, Sonia in San Antonio, Texas; son, Patrick and wife Jennifer in Austin, Tecas; his brother, Tony and wife Mary, De Pere, Wis.; and six grandchildren, Austin, Joseph, Eva, Hailey, Evan and Alexis; his sister-in-law, Jacqueline Busiau and husband, Raymond. He had a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephew, and his beloved godmother, Esther Dhuey.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Junior and Bernard, his mother-in-law, Suzanne Levacher Schreiber and father-in-law, Leo Schreiber.

The family received visitors from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 8, at Zoeller Funeral Home, 615 Landa St., New Braunfels, Texas. Rosary and Vigil were at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 386 N. Castell Ave, New Braunfels, followed by a reception in St. Mary's Hall. The processional to Fort Sam Houston, 1520 Harry Wurzbach, San Antonio, Texas, between noon and 12:15 p.m. for a graveside service and burial at 1 p.m.
