Obituary

On Sunday morning, February 3, 2019, Mildred (Millie) Kendrick Golden of Kingwood, Texas, passed away, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Hemphill, Texas on October 7, 1935, to Bulah and William Kendrick, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her beloved husband of 41 years, John T. (JT) Golden, son Scott Sandlin and wife Susan of Humble, Texas, and daughter Carol Sandlin Heathcock and husband John of Baytown, Texas, plus her husband's children - Elizabeth Golden Achorn, David Golden, Gretchen Golden Foley, and Judy Golden Jordan, and their children. She adored her numerous grandchildren - Krista Strange Moreman, Cullen Jackson, Courteney Jackson, Joey Sandlin, and Ben Sandlin, and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her only sibling, her beloved sister Dixie Thompson and husband Danny, and their children, Ken, Leslie, and Michael.

Millie graduated from Shelbyville (Texas) High School in 1952 at the age of 16, worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company after graduation, and attended night school at the University of Houston. She was a member of Kingwood United Methodist Church.

Millie loved spending time with her family, reading, cooking, collecting cookbooks (which she read as novels), the theater, gardening, and administering "unsolicited advice when she thought it necessary." She was an exemplary hostess and entertainer, who loved nothing more than gathering around a full table with friends for a great meal and conversation. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel at home, friends and newcomers alike.

Millie and JT spent much of the last twenty-plus years sharing special moments and raucous gatherings with their close friends in the Kingwood Wine Club. She was also engaged with many friends and family members in endless (and concurrent) Words With Friends games, and secretly took pride in thrashing nearly everyone who dared take on her challenge.

Mildred's celebration of life was held at Kingwood Funeral Home on Thursday, February 7, 2019. Pallbearers were her grandsons Joey Sandlin, Ben Sandlin, Nathan Jordan, Christopher Jordan, Cullen Jackson, and Travis Achorn, her nephew Michael Thompson, and her son-in-law Trace Moreman. Interment will take place at a future date at the Anahuac Cemetery, in Anahuac, Texas.

She loved flowers, but if you would like to make a donation in her honor, please give to the Cancer Research or Cancer Prevention programs at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, or the Salvation Army.
