SNOW HILL - Mr. Henry Clair Dixon, 91, a lifelong resident of Greene County, North Carolina, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018. Henry Clair was born June 5, 1926, in Greene County near Hookerton, North Carolina, to Henry Sugg Dixon and Mabel Clair Bright Dixon. A lifelong member of Rainbow United Methodist Church, Henry Clair had served as a Trustee and as Chairman of the Rainbow Cemetery Committee. He was a graduate of Hookerton High School and attended North Carolina State College upon graduation from high school. After one year at State, he was drafted into the US Army serving in World War II European Theater where he achieved the rank of Sergeant in Company I of the 290th Infantry Regiment. Upon his return from the war, he met the love of his life, Lula Inez Brown, and they were married and settled on the family farm where they raised their children and were lifelong tobacco farmers. Henry Clair was pre-deceased by his father and mother; his brothers, Lyman and Jasper; and by his wife, Lula Inez Brown Dixon. Henry Clair and Inez had been married for 48 years at the time of death in 1997. He is survived by his son, William "Billy" Dixon and wife Kristy, of Cary; daughter, Lu Anne Dixon Price and husband David, of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Sara Dixon Sonnenberg and husband Eric, of Hillsborough, Benjamin Chappell Dixon of Raleigh, and Caroline Frances Price and fiancé Ben Bardill, of Raleigh. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at Rainbow UMC with the Reverend Patrick Keely officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the Rainbow Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday prior to the service from 1-1:45 p.m. in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home of David and Lu Anne Price. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Henry Clair's memory are suggested to Rainbow UMC, c/o Ray Pridgen, 704 Greenridge Road, Snow Hill, NC 28580.
