Ella Green Weyher

KINSTON | Ella Green Weyher of Kinston, North Carolina died Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at the age of 90. Born in Wilson, North Carolina, Ella Green lived most of her life in Kinston. She was the daughter of Harry Frederick Weyher and Laura Gray Carter, both of Kinston. Her sister, Marie Taylor died in 1971 and her brother, Harry Frederick Weyher Jr. died in 2002. El is survived by her nieces, Barbara Weyher McLamb, Laura Weyher Hall and Laura Taylor Barwick; her nephew, Harry F. Weyher III; and eight grand nieces and nephews. Ella Green graduated from Grainger High School in Kinston and then worked for Dr. Clifton F. West for over 30 years as his office manager. She was beloved by all his patients. She also devoted much of her adult life to the care of her ailing mother and to helping the needy. Ella Green administered the Laura C. Weyher Foundation, which made charitable contributions to local schools, community activities, and other worthy causes. In between these pursuits, El earned her pilot's license and flew a Stearman biplane in and around the Kinston area. She lived in the house her father built on West Vernon Avenue in Kinston until recent years when she moved to Cypress Glen Retirement Community in Greenville, NC. At Cypress Glen, The Ella Green Weyher Memory Care Cottage was named in her honor. Ella Green was a longstanding member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church where a memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at 11 a.m. El will be buried next to her parents and siblings in the Westview Cemetery in Kinston. El's surviving relatives are eternally grateful to all of her friends for the compassion and care they extended to her over the years.
