Carl Strand, 83, of Springfield, died at 9:10 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Villas of Sherman.

Carl was born January 11, 1934 in Rolla, ND, the son of Carl and Rosella Youngberg Strand. He married Sue Steil on November 26, 1966 in Albert Lea, MN; she preceded him in death on January 13, 2015.

Carl was a graduate of Bremerton High School in Bremerton, WA. He attended Washington State University and the University of Montana. Carl was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He played football in high school and college, and played the trumpet with Quincy Jones, Jr. in the high school band. Carl served in the U.S. Army as the Regimental Football Coach. He was honored to be included in the Honor Flight on March 24, 2014.

Carl's career was in sales. He later worked for the Secretary of State as a State Capitol tour guide, retiring in 2009. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, as well as the YMCA Century Club. Carl was a Cub Scout Leader and very involved in local sports. He was also a St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffrey Strand; brothers, Robert and Clifford Strand; and sister, Grayce Kelly.

Carl is survived by his daughter-in-law, Pamela Strand of Lower Makefield Township, PA; three grandchildren, Jack, Gretchen and Nathaniel Strand; one sister-in-law, Joyce Strand of Bremerton, WA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.

Memorial Gathering and Memorial Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. on Friday, May 18, 2018 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. Memorial Ceremony will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bobby Moore officiating.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
