James I. Maddock Obituary
The Honorable James I. Maddock

Port Orchard, WA

Feb. 15, 1931 - Sept. 25, 2018

James I. Maddock graduated early from Lincoln High School in Seattle Washington in 1949, receiving his Juris Doctor from the University of Washington in June of 1953, and was the youngest person ever admitted to Washington State Bar association that September. After a couple years as an active duty Reserve Officer in the Air Force he returned to Washington starting legal practice with Dick Schultheis where he practiced until appointed as a Kitsap County Superior Court Judge in 1977.

He stayed active in retirement, working as a Judge Pro Tem, an arbitrator, travelling and acting in local theatre. Beyond all else Grandpa Jim delighted in his family and step families, loving and beloved of all the children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He celebrated their lives and ached with them through their trials with complete abandon.

He is predeceased by Allene Maddock and Janet [Joyce] Maddock. He is survived by his wife Joyce [Moran] Maddock, his children Scott Maddock, Teresa Sugiyama, Ericka K Maddock, Rick Joyce, Rob Joyce, Laurel Anne Taubel, Kevin Joyce, Thomas Moran, Colette Moran, Daniel Moran, Joan E Moran, their spouses and significant others, 32 Grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.

He will have two memorial services.

The first will be at M J Suerth's Funeral Home in Chicago on October 20th at Noon.

The second will be at the Port Orchard United Methodist church on October 28th at 1PM, followed by a reception.

Please send gifts in his memory to Kitsap Legal Services or the Dispute Resolution Center of Kitsap County.
