Nancy C. Byas, 79, long-time resident of Bremerton, WA died 3/17/2018 in Lakewood, WA.

Nan was born in Hoquim, WA and adopted by Delmer and Gladys Byas. She had a younger sister Candi Byas. Later in life, Nan found her biological mother and biological brothers.

Nan spent her early childhood living in logging camps on the Pacific coast. Her family moved to Seattle, WA when she was 5 years old. Nan grew up in the Rainier Beach neighborhood and graduated from Franklin High School, Seattle, WA. She attended the University of Washington and later graduated from Central Washington University with a BA in Education.

Nan married Ronald G. Wright in August 1976. They raised three children (two from Ron's previous marriage) Steven Wright, Debra Wright-Andersen, and Christina Wright-Kindt.

Prior to becoming a mother, Nan enjoyed a career in education. Nan taught elementary school, mainly kindergarten and preschool.

Nan was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. At other times, she also attended Bremerton United Methodist Church. She was a member of NAMI, League of Women Voters, Youth Hosteling International and founder of Friendz support group. Nan enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed trips to the ocean and art museums.

Nan is survived by her biological brother, Ken Miller (Charlene), step-son, Steven Wright (Nicole), step-daughter, Debra Wright-Andersen, and daughter Christina Wright-Kindt (Kevin). And fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Nan was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald G. Wright (2/2016) and grandson Ronnie Andersen.

Nan was honest about struggling with mental illness. Nan's choices and illness deeply affected each member of her family.

A simple memorial service will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 10:30am at Bachmann Park in Bremerton.
