Matthew Lee Newton, 33, passed away Friday, June 22, 2018 in Nashville, TN, where he was undergoing treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He was the husband of Brittany Newton, and they shared seven years of marriage and sixteen years of life together.
Born January 12, 1985 in Jacksonville, FL, he was the son of Joel and Cathy Newton. Matthew was a constant source of joy and kindness. He never met a stranger and shared love and compassion with everyone. Always active in track and field, Matthew fulfilled this passion by coaching high school and college athletes in Bristol, where he and Brittany made their home. Matthew was an avid Braves fan, and true to the Newton name, was a gifted musician who shared his talent throughout his life.
When Matthew was diagnosed with leukemia in late May 2018, his attitude never wavered from positivity as he strongly and boldly put up a fight with Brittany and his family by his side.
In his life, Matthew's generous spirit has brought joy to so many lives and he will be remembered for his humble character, fun-loving nature, and selfless friendship.
He was a devoted husband to his wife Brittany; son to Joel and Cathy; brother to Thomas (Lindsey), Amy Stevens (Jason), Christopher (Sarah), and Maleah; and fun uncle to Avery, Alexander, and Anderson Jones.
He was also treasured by Brittany's parents Steve Pierce (Jeannie) and Gail Moore (Tim); her siblings Steven (Tamara), Kortney, and Ashley; and niece and nephews, Jordan, Aaliyah and Peyton and Greyson.
A celebration of life service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Bristol, TN on Tuesday, June 26 at 5:30pm. Friends and family with be received from 3-5pm.
