Charles Monroe Stanley Sr., age 98, of South Knoxville, went to be with the Lord on July 12, 2018. Charles was the owner of Stanley's Greenhouses, a fifth generation Knoxville business, where he worked alongside of his wife, Mary Kathryn, children, grandchildren, and many other family members and wonderful employees. Charles was also a retired foreman with Robert Shaw with 40 years of service. He was a lifetime member of South Knoxville Baptist Church and a member of the Charles McKinney Masonic Lodge. He was born July 4, 1920, in Knoxville, TN. Charles was the oldest child born to Bruce and Mae Davenport Stanley. He is preceded in death by his wife of 77 years, Mary Kathryn Stanley; parents; sister, Edna Mae and husband, P.K. Boyd; brother, J.B. Stanley; sisters-in-law, Helen Tant and husband, Joe, and Mabel Davenport and husband, Hubert, and Tootsie Stanley. Charles is survived by his daughter, Barbara Barton and husband, Jim; sons, Charles "Monte" Stanley, Jr. and wife, Whitney and Rocky Stanley and wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Lezlie Raney and husband, Rusty, David Barton and wife, Christy, Brett Stanley, Wesley Stanley, Maida Lara and husband, Angel, Bill Stanley, Zach Stanley, and Abby Stanley; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Raney and wife, Kassidy, John Barton, Wesley Raney, Jake Barton, Gavin Stanley, Josh Barton, Lilly Stanley, Jackson and Sam Lara; brother, Howard Stanley; sister-in-law, Bertha Stanley; special nephews, Bob Tant and Bob Kendrick; and many other cherished family members and friends. The family would like to extend a special thanks to caregivers, Sylvia Hollifield, Donna Elliott, and Gail Hoskins. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway. Friends and family will meet at 9:00 am on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Berry Funeral Home and will proceed to Woodlawn Cemetery for a 10:00 am graveside service, with Rev. Chuck Starks officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons, great grandsons and nephews. Donations in Mr. Stanley's memory may be made to South Knoxville Baptist Church, 522 Sevier Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37920.
