Frances Colgan "Fran" Kress Obituary
Frances "Fran" Colgan Kress

Knoxville, TN

Monsignor Al Humbrecht will celebrate the life of Frances Colgan Kress with a Memorial Mass at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus on Saturday, September 22, at 9:30 a.m. A Receiving of Friends will begin at 8:45 a.m. in the Narthex or main entrance to be followed by Mass in the South Transept or Marian Chapel to the left of the main altar.

Frances "Fran" died quietly at home August 9th, 2018. She was born in 1913 and lived a full, competent, spirited life to the end, just shy of her 105th birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Marvin C. "Jack" Kress and her only son, Michael B. Kress, a retired Marine. She leaves behind her only daughter, Laura J. Kress, and the daughter and son of her heart, Robin John Berry and Frank Crosby. She also leaves 12 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

She touched the lives of many people throughout her long life of volunteerism and work as a personnel service director and mental health staffer. She is being remembered for her kindness, wit, business acumen, charm and soothing manner. Having been raised the third oldest of fourteen children in a small, close knit, Irish Catholic town, she always treated people warmly, making everyone feel "at home" in her presence.

Special blessings on her friends Jerry Vaughn, Rose Hust, Hieu Vinh and Donna Sise, the UT Hospice caregivers Jordan and Brittney, and the caregivers from Seniors Helping Seniors, Ann, Catherine, Sally, Betty and Linda whom she loved as family. She chose to donate her body to science through Restore Life USA (423) 631-0067.
