Howard Hammon Simpson

SIMPSON, HOWARD HAMMOND - of Knoxville, died peacefully at home January 5, 2019. He was born July 16, 1923 in Lumberton, Mississippi. Howard was a kind, generous man with an incredible sense of humor. He was a member of Middlebrook Pike Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Maxie Meador Simpson, and by his parents, Oscar L. Simpson Sr. and Gladys Yawn Simpson, sister, Frances Simpson, and Brothers William Simpson and Oscar L. Simpson Jr. Howard is survived by his daughter, Janet S. Vancil, brother, Robert L. Simpson and sister in law, Nadine Simpson, grandchildren, Jeremy M. Vancil and Jaimie M. Vancil, Katrina Vancil and great grandson Lucas Z. Vancil and many nieces and nephews and cousins. Howard Served in WW11 in the Navy as a Radioman First Class on an LCI in the Pacific. He graduated from UT with a BS in Electrical Engineering. and worked at Raytheon, Western Electric Minuteman Missle System, the Bell Telephone System. He retired from AT&T and remained active in Telephone Pioneers. The Funeral Service will be at Middlebrook Pike United Methodist Church Saturday, January 12th. Receiving of friends will be from 11am to 12 noon with the funeral service at 12 with Rev. Bruce Galyon officiating. Interment will be at 2:30pm at the Meador Cemetery in Harrogate, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, donations to Middlebrook Pike United Methodist Church may be made. Thanks to the many friends and family who have visited and supported and loved him over the years, and our gratitude goes to Smoky Mountain Hospice for their care and help.
