Jane Crowell Peters Hamilton

Jane Crowell Peters Hamilton passed away at age 90 on May 7th, 2018 in Maryville, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Dr. H. Dewey Peters, Sr. and wife, Mary Crowell Peters and was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. H. Dewey Peters, Jr.

A native Knoxvillian, Jane was a 1945 graduate of Knoxville High School and obtained a B.S. degree in Home Economics in 1949 from the University of Tennessee. At UT, she was a Torchbearer, president of the Delta Delta Delta sorority, member of Mortar Board, Phi Kappa Phi, Omicron Nu, Pi Lambda Theta and was awarded a scholarship to the Merrill-Palmer School in Detroit for study in her major, child development and family relationships.

Jane's special pleasure was her four children and their families. She is survived by Edward (Ward) Hamilton, III and wife Diane of Seymour, Tennessee; Mary (Hamilton) Deaton and husband Jeff of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Beverly (Hamilton) Wilson and husband George (Gaff) Wilson, III of Delmar, Delaware; and Taylor Hamilton and wife Julia of Knoxville.

She shared a deep affection with her beloved grandchildren - Allison (Hamilton) Becha and husband Tarik; Heather Hamilton; Deborah (Huddleston) Crouse and husband Dustin; Taylor and Eddy Deaton; Helen Wilson; and Parker and Jack Hamilton.

She is also survived by her niece Cynthia (Peters) Walsh of Jupiter, Florida; nephew Jeffrey (Chip) Peters of Roswell, Georgia; a cousin who was more like a sister, Beverly Crowell Shepherd of Nashville, Tennessee; and several other cousins and great nieces and nephews.

Jane will always be remembered by her family and friends for her kind heart and the loving way she always put others before herself. She cherished her childhood friends in Sewing Club and enjoyed membership in Athene Circle, Knoxville Piano Duet Club, Tri-Delt Lunch Bunch, Cherokee Hills Garden Club, Knoxville Racquet Club, Greater Knoxville Tennis Association, Faculty Club, Nine O'Clock Cotillion and a 60-year membership in the Junior League of Knoxville.

The family would like to thank the staff of Asbury Place in Maryville and UT Hospital for the compassionate care and comfort they provided to Jane over the past few months.

Jane was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, where services will be held on Saturday, July 14th at 2:00 PM, with Dr. Bill Barron officiating. A reception will follow at the church.
