Jerry Edward Cox

Knoxville, TN

"Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him." James 1:12 NASB. Rev. Jerry E. Cox (Grandbuddy) age 75 of Knoxville passed away on Monday June 11, 2018. Jerry was a servant to all he came in contact with; he and his wife of forty four years, Beverly, pastored Powell Church of God for nearly thirty-eight years. Their daughter, son and daughter in love followed in his footsteps in ministry. His heart was most full when anyone called him "Grandbuddy" especially any of his seven grandchildren. He helped pioneer the Knox County Sheriff's Chaplain Corps where he served as co-coordinator. He also served as a Knoxville Police Department Chaplain. Preceded in death by father, Rector "Red" Cox' mother, Grace Cox' brother, Jack Cox; and sister, Margaret Buford. He is survived by spouse, Beverly Dye Cox, daughter, Tammi Vega; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jihan Cox; grandchildren, Elias, Nissi, Josiah, Eva, Evi, Nehemiah "Jack", and Ezra; a host of extended family, his Powell Church of God family, and many friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:30 pm Friday June 15, 2018, at Parkwest Church of God. A funeral service will follow with Rev. Michael Cox officiating. The family and friends will meet at 9:30 am Saturday June 16, 2018, at Powell Church of God (8109 Sharp Road Powell, TN 37849), and travel in procession to Greenwood Cemetery for an 11:00 am graveside service. Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel is honored to serve the family of Rev. Cox. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Powell Church of God (P.O. Box 307 Powell, TN 37849).
