Rachel Rose Parker, of Kingston, Tennessee, passed away Thursday February 16, 2017, at the age of 96, after a life well lived. She was the oldest child of Robert Tipton Rose and Trula Bryan Rose. She was a lifelong resident of Roane County, born May 10, 1920, just south of Kingston. She married J. C. "Babe" Parker in 1939. Together, they traveled the world, continuing her travels for many years after his death in 1994. Rachel was an avid historian, having served on the Board of the Roane County Heritage Commission. She especially enjoyed playing an active role in the restoration of the Old Roane County Courthouse. She was a member of the Avery Trace Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed politics, having once run for mayor of Kingston. She served on the planning Commission of Kingston. Rachel worked for TVA from 1939 until 1953. She was also a Realtor for many years. She was a member of the Kingston United Methodist Church helping start The Clothes Closet where she continued to work one day a week up until her recent illness. She enjoyed playing bridge, genealogy and especially shopping. She shared that passion with her wonderful friend Barbara Louckes.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband of 55 years, J. C. "Babe" Parker; and her three sisters, Ora Lee Yerger, Virginia Bacon and Betty Lynn Jacobs. She is survived by her son, Frank Parker and wife Norma Parker, of Athens, Tennessee; and three grandchildren, Rebecca Parker, of Knoxville, Matthew Parker, currently serving in the Peace Corp in Indonesia, and Elizabeth Parker, of Raleigh, NC.

The funeral will be held at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017, in the Kyker Chapel, with Rev. Sue Lynn Johnson officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, at Bethel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to the Kingston United Methodist Church or the Roane County Heritage Commission. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Saturday, at the Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston. www.kykerfuneralhomes.com.
