Just a note from your Mama to tell you I love you and miss you so much, my sweet beautiful son. Rest in peace till we see you again. My memories of you somehow grow more vivid every day, the day you were born, the day we finally brought you home from the hospital, the day you learned to walk, the silly face you made when you discovered the taste of dill pickles and that you liked them, even though they made you shiver and crunch up your sweet little face...I thank God for all my memories of you. That they are becoming more clear must truly be a gift from God. You were a miracle baby and I'm so proud of the wonderful, loving and beautiful man that you became. It's hard to not question God for taking you from us too soon, but He must have had His reasons. Rest in Peace my sweet son.I'm looking forward to seeing you again. Love and HUGS to you from your mama, my precious first-born baby boy.

A note from your Mother on your Birthday...It's your Birthday today, Rene, our day. I love you and miss you so much, as do all your family and friends. The hole in my heart and of the rest of our family just grows deeper with every passing day. I know you are in a better and more peaceful place. May God hold you in His loving care till we see you again. But I'm selfish, I suppose, because I wish you were here so I could hug you one more time and tell you how much I love you and how very much you are missed.

Love you always, my baby son.

Always, Mama

I am so saddened to hear about the loss of Eddie. I know Eddie through the KISL where he was a true treasure to our group. When I began with the KISL, I will never forget that Eddie was the very first person to make me feel at home. I always appreciated his dedication to our league and the way he always went above and beyond the call of duty. He was a wonderful man and all of his family should be so proud of the person that he was. Heaven truly recieved a special blessing when Eddie got Home!! You all will be in my prayers.

Eddie touched our lives in so many ways. I can not believe he is gone. I do know he is in Heaven. He was a friend to us at The King's Academy and the KISL where he was our treasurer and a treasure to us all. He always did the thankless jobs and never wanted a bit of credit for either. Eddie you are missed and will continue to be missed. Every time I sit in a KISL meeting or go to a soccer game you will be in my thoughts. I know you loved your family so much and I pray and know God will continue to take care of them and blessed them.

Dear Pam,
Debbie and I sat with you and Rene (as we called him in school) at our 25th class reunion last year. It was a pleasure to meet you and visit with Rene after all these years. We were so saddened to hear the news of his passing. He was so much fun to be around and always had a smile on his face and we can see from the nice things people have written about him, that it didn't change after he left Pikeville. On behalf of his friends and classmates, God bless you and your children.

Eddie was one of the first persons to befriend me when I moved my family to Knoville just over 10 years ago. He was active in the CBFO youth basketball program where he and I coached. I knew him as a kind, giving, and knowledgeable man. I later had the privilege of coaching his daughter, Myra, as a member of the Knoxville Panthers girls basketball team, along with my daughter, Taylor. It has been a distinct pleasure to watch Myra mature into such a wonderful person and we are deeply saddened by the loss of Eddie. He will always remain in my heart, and his family will always be in our thoughts and prayers.

I was very saddened when I learned of the passing of Eddie. I have known hime for several years both in football and soccer. His devotion to the sports will be missed, and I will miss seeing him on the field. It is my prayer that you all will find strength in knowing how many of us loved and appreciated him, and comfort knowing he is with the Lord.

I knew Eddie as my son Jed's basketball coach, and as a referee during Bearden High soccer games. But most of all as a friend and fellow lover of sports. His confidence in Jed made him a better player and person, and taught him lessons he will carry the rest of his life. Eddie loved the game day atmosphere while officiating games at Bearden, and the press box crew sends our heartfelt condolences to the family.

Pam, Mira and Matt:
Our family was saddened to hear of "Coach Eddie's" passing yesterday at Erin's CBFO softball game (where the flag was at half mast in memory of Eddie). Eddie coached Erin in basketball and became friends with Mira. Pam, please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Please let Danny, myself, Erin or Chris know if there is anything that we can do for you. We love you. God is with you always... Our deepest sympathy, the Williams' family.

Some say life is short but it is the longest thing we will ever do. All the more reason to give and take as much as you can from each moment. Eddie certainly gave his all, took back in everything he could, and gave it all right back, making it better in the process. What a great world it would be if we were all half of what Eddie exhibited on a daily basis.

Bob Denne

June 10, 2008

Our family was fortunate to have known Eddie for many years. He always managed to share his love and compassion for sports with so many young people and was never afraid to tackle any issue that life threw at him. Our son thought the world of Coach Neely and he always treated Alex like one of his very own. The influence that Eddie made on others is immeasurable. He became more than just a coach or the commissioner that we all grew to know, he became our friend. We loved Eddie dearly and will miss him terribly for years to come. We are so saddened for Pam, Mira and Matt's lose and our hearts go out to each of them during this difficult time. We will keep Eddie bright within our memories.

Eddie's contribution to youth sports in the area was huge. I didn't always agree with his managerial philosophy, but he was truly dedicated to making soccer fun and available to everyone. I coached some, but Eddie did it all, coaching, refereeing, and regional management. It always amazed me how he found time to do all that. No surprise that he was not easy to track down for a signature, he was always on the go. He will be missed. May his family find some solace in knowing that his short life had a positive effect on so many.

Dear Neely family,

You are in our thoughts and prayers as you work through this difficult time. We came to know Eddie through CBFO and Jake adored him as a coach. We appreciated all he did with CBFO to keep it up and running when no one else wanted the difficult task. He will be missed but not forgotten. He is in the hearts of all those boys he coached, as we know he is looking down on them from a better place.
