McCORD, DARRIS - October 9, 2013, peacefully at home in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Age 80. He was born in Franklin, Tennessee, in 1933. Darris graduated from Franklin High School's class of 1950 and accepted a scholarship to the University of Tennessee. McCord captained the 1954 Vols and was named a First-Team All-American by the Football Writers Association. Upon graduation, he earned berths in the 1954 Blue-Gray Game, the College All-Star Game, and the Senior Bowl. Darris earned a Bachelor of Science Degree with an engineering major. He was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in 1996. He was part of the Detroit Lions "Fearsome Foursome" and a member of the 1957 World Championship Detroit Lions team that defeated the Cleveland Browns. Beloved husband of Helen (nee Faddis) for 62 years. Dear father of Vickie Sawtelle (Sherman), Michael McCord (Janice Clancy), and Kelli Schwartz (Mark). Cherished Papa of Darris, Michael, Riley, Megan, Katelin and Jessica. Brother of Jean Cullen, Betty Xerrie, Kenneth and the late Frank. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service Saturday, 10:00 a.m. at Northbrook Presbyterian Church, 22055 W. Fourteen Mile Road, Beverly Hills, Michigan.
