BUTLER - Sarah L Stemen, 102, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025, at Laurels of DeKalb in Butler, Indiana.
She was born on July 25, 1923, in Churubusco, Indiana, to Adam and Mamie I. (Cross) Boggs.
Sarah was a 1941 graduate of Huntertown High School.
During WWII, she worked at Wayne Pump in Fort Wayne, making 20 MM machine gun bullets. She was one of those women known as "Rosie the Riveter". After WWII, she was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband on the family farm.
Sarah was a member of Christ Church in Butler.
She loved flowers, gardening and was an avid follower of the Chicago Cubs.
She married John J. Stemen on Sept. 19, 1944, in LaGrange, Indiana, and he passed away in August 2010.
Surviving are two sons and daughters in law, Jack C. and Sharon Stemen, of Butler and Thomas E. and Mary Jo Stemen, of Butler; nine grandchildren, Natalie Banard, Sara Brown, Rachel Federow, Clinton Stemen, Tracy Heinze, Lori Johnson, Carie Louth, Shelly Eicker and Stacey Thomas; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Harold Boggs and Richard Boggs.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 S. Wayne St., Waterloo, IN 46793, with burial to follow the service at Butler Cemetery, Butler, Indiana.
Calling is three hours prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Saturday, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given in memory of Sarah, to Christ Church in Butler.
