AVILLA - Nancy Joan Mitchell, 87, of Avilla, Indiana, died on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2025, at her residence.
She was born on Sept. 23, 1938, in Kendallville, Indiana, to Urban and Helen (Coffelt) Drerup.
She married James E. Mitchell. He preceded her in death on March 2, 2001.
She was a registered nurse, having worked at McCray Memorial Hospital in Kendallville. She retired as the Noble County Nurse and later worked at Kendallville Manor Health Care Center in Kendallville.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kendallville and American Legion Post 86 Auxiliary.
Nancy loved watching old Westerns, The Lone Ranger, Walker Texas Ranger, and Perry Mason. She never missed an episode of The Golden Girls. And nothing made her smile quite like the music of Elvis Presley.
Surviving are a daughter, Carmen Fleck, of Rome City; two sons, Adam Huffman, of Bonita, Oklahoma, and Brett (Tamara) Huffman, of Kendallville; three grandchildren, Ethan Huffman, Lisa (Bob) Palmer and Keri Huffman; four great-grandchildren, Noah, Logan, Lily and Addylyn; two sisters, Rosemary Jones, of Auburn and Jean Ann Bishop, of Auburn; and a brother, William (Barbara) Drerup, of Avilla.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, from 10-11 a.m., at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 S. State St., Kendallville.
Nancy's funeral service will be on Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home, with Tom Novy officiating.
Private burial will be at Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
