FORT WAYNE - Steven E. "Steve" McElhoe, 76, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, Oct. 27, 2025.
Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Steve was the son of the late Harold and Georgianna (Hansen) McElhoe.
Steve proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
He graduated from North Side High School and later earned his associate degree from Ivy Tech.
Steve dedicated 33 years to the banking industry as a senior mortgage loan officer - a career he truly loved because it allowed him to help others achieve the dream of homeownership.
Never one to sit still, Steve was always tinkering, mowing the lawn, or relaxing in his man cave with good music. A devoted fan of Notre Dame, his love for music and sports was second only to his deep love for his family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Cathy McElhoe; children, Shayne McElhoe, Christine "Chrissy" McElhoe and Holly McElhoe; grandchildren, Dylan McElhoe, Haley McElhoe, Keiona (Enrique) Corona, Cameron Summers and Grace McElhoe; brothers, David (Kathy) Becker and Danny Becker; and sister, Darlene (Paul) Buckel.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Dick Teeters.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, from 4-7 p.m.

We were so sorry to hear about Steve’s death. We have such great memories of hours spent together during our Engaged Encounter weekends, and the happy, crazy memories of gatherings with all of our kids! Steve was always the life of the party, but when it was time to be serious, a time for sincerity, and prayer, he was the first to commit. Until we’d all start laughing again! Our favorite memories were when Steve dressed up and played the part of Fr. Guido Sarducci and accompanied Denny on his Christmas tree inspections escapades! . And for me when he had everyone rolling over laughing as he roasted me on my birthday party.again as Fr. Guido! I’m sure Steve’s capacity for spreading joy and laughter will continue until we hear his voice again. So so sorry for your loss Cathy and kids.

Steve and I severed on the North Eastern Indiana Mortgage Bankers Board together. He was liked by everyone. He was also one of the funniest guys I knew. There were times when my cheeks would hurt because we were laughing so hard. You will be truly missed Steve. Rest in peace my friend.

Have known Steve since North Side HS. We worked in banking for many years. Steve had a super sense of humor and was an excellent poet ! We became good friends later in life. I will miss Steve so much. My regret is that we did not get together more often. My prayers to Cathy and their family. He is with the LORD and no longer has pain. I will miss lunch with Steve and Mark as we shared great stories !!! May GOD be with family and friends through this difficult time. Peace be with all of us.

I met Steve & Cathy through friends Tom and Cindy Henry. We had some fun game nights and a lot of laughs every time there was a gathering of friends & family. Cindy, Tom, Ben, and now Steve, this much loss in such a short period of time is heartbreaking and difficult to process. Truly devastating. We all live our lives forgetting we are on borrowed time. Please be kind always! Pray for all who loved them.

He was a wonderful neighbor and friend who made every conversation feel easy and every day a little brighter. We´ll miss those peaceful afternoons on the lake, pontoon to pontoon, sharing stories and laughter. Our thoughts are with Cathy and the family.
