Robert Pacha Obituary
Robert (Bob) Pacha
Robert Edward (Bob) Pacha, 83, of Ellensburg, died in Seattle of metastatic melanoma on May 23, 2016, surrounded by his beloved family.
Born and raised in Payette, Idaho, on September 4, 1932, Bob moved to Seattle after high school to study at the University of Washington. He met his wife, Jeanette, there while engaged in postdoctoral research in the field of microbiology. In 1969 he began a distinguished career as a professor at Central Washington University, after having taught at Oregon State University for five years. Outside the university, he attended St. Andrews Catholic Church and was a valuable member of the congregation. He was curious about the natural world in all its forms, from terrestrial microbes to the galaxies of the ever-expanding universe. His hobbies reflected his wide-ranging interests: he made beautiful woodcrafts, earned a ham radio license, studied Spanish, and, in his earlier years, explored the outdoors with Seattle's Mountaineers. He was especially proud to have raised four daughters who became their own selves while remaining a close family. Friends, family, colleagues, and students will remember him as an accomplished scientist, a dedicated teacher, a vibrant leader within St. Andrews' Hispanic community, and so much more.
Bob is survived by his wife, Jeanette; daughters Danielle (Rich), Shelly (Lupito), Shannon (Dan), and Nicole (Ramo); and grandchildren Reyna and Elisa Flores and Ronan Pacha-Murawski. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 25, at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Ellensburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to World Wildlife Fund or Doctors Without Borders in Bob's name.
