Catherine "Cat" Mary Marrier
Catherine "Cat" Mary Marrier, age 62, passed away August 17th, 2018 from injuries sustained in a trail riding accident. She was born April 13th, 1956 in Chehalis, Washington to Cornelius (Con) and Marlene Ahmann, their much-loved first child. Throughout her life, she remained the big sister, always there for her sister and brothers.
Early in her life she became a well-respected trainer and breeder of paints, warmbloods, and quarter horses. Later, she was hired by the Washington State Department of Agriculture as a Feed Specialist.
Thanks to her integrity, attention to detail, and broad practical expertise in the field she quickly advanced to the Senior Feed Specialist/Field Supervisor for the WSDA Animal Feed Program. However, those close to Cat knew from the many stories and pictures she shared that her children and grandchildren were her greatest accomplishments.
Later in life she married her best friend Jerry Marrier, to whom she was deeply devoted, and they moved to a peaceful ranch home in Ellensburg. Cat did all things with grace, whether it was calming a nervous horse, comforting a friend, or making a fine-looking quilt.
She was a beautiful, passionate, hard working woman who changed lives through patience, understanding and acceptance. She was thoughtful, kind and always spoke from the heart. Many close friends referred to her as sister or mom.
She cherished her family and friends and was loved dearly. Cat stayed true to her principals, living life keenly and to its fullest. She had a deep understanding of animals and was most at peace outdoors; she was close to God and left this earth where the trail meets the sky.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry; mother, Marlene Ahmann; children, Candice (Jeremy) Auman, Jim (Carrie) Kinsman and Jake (Jennifer) Kinsman; 10 grandkids, all of whom were secretly her "favorite"; her sister Constance Adams and brothers John (Shelia) Ahmann, Joe (Bobbie) Ahmann, Steve (Laurie) Ahmann, Martin (Audrey) Ahmann, Paul (Tommie Sue) Ahmann, and Brennan (Kathleen) Ahmann, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father, Cornelius Ahmann and niece Cassie Ahmann.
Family, friends and others whose lives Catherine touched are invited to celebrate her life on Saturday, September 8th at 1 p.m. at her and Jerry's home, 1501 Bar 14 Rd., Ellensburg WA.

My friendship with Cat is almost impossible to describe. I first met Cat 5 years ago when I had been with WSDA just two weeks. I met her in Spokane during a January snowstorm. We had an instant and intense connection. My friendship with Cat is deep and powerful and amazing. If you have ever had a close friend, you just know what I mean. Cat had an uncanny ability to help you find the value in all that you do and especially yourself. She cared deeply about her work and loved her family and friends.
When my friend died, it was like a family member who had died, a friend who is my sister, and it's something I'll never get over. I'll learn to live with it. It may get different, it may get easier, but this will always be with me. Being Cat's friend was nothing less than an honor and a privilege.
