Velma Ann Garland Baird
Velma Ann Baird passed away on August 2, 2018 in Seattle. She was born September 23, 1946, in Portland, OR., to Harold and Milly Garland. A year later the family moved to Walla Walla.
Velma graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1964. She was part owner of H & H Pawn Shop in Walla Walla. She then moved to Ellensburg where she and a partner owned and operated The Oak Rail Tavern into the early 80's.
Velma moved back to Walla Walla where she reconnected with Norm. Then they moved to Portland where she worked for the Corps of Engineers. On May 9, 1986, Velma and Norm were married. They Moved to Ellensburg in 1989 from Portland. Velma worked for Bonneville Power as an office manager from early 1990 until retirement in 2006. Upon retirement Norm and Velma travelled and while Norm participated in trap shooting competitions, Velma played cards with the ladies.
Velma loved to garden and loved her flowers. She loved to make the house comfortable not only for her and Norm but for those visiting.
Velma is survived by her husband, Norm, brother; Clayton (Patricia) Garland, daughter Kimberly Salsberry, granddaughter Chantelle Heether, stepsons; Dean Baird, Joe (Renae) Baird, Dave Baird and stepdaughter; Julie Baird and step grand-children Logan, Lauren and Dave.
She was preceded by her parents and sister Len Garland.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Brookside Funeral Home, 101 E 2nd Ave, Ellensburg from 1:00 to 4:00. Visitation will also be held on Friday, August 10, at Colonial Dewitt Funeral Home, 1551 The Dalles Military Rd, Walla Walla from 11:00 to 12:30 followed by a graveside service at Mt. View Cemetery, 2120 S. 2nd Ave. Walla Walla, WA.
She is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. We love you
