MARJORIE "MARGE" LYMAN BROOKS
Peacefully entered into rest on February 27, 2014 in Santa Rosa, CA. Dearly beloved mother of Gayle Brooks of Santa Rosa, Sheila Brooks (Robert) of Poole, U.K., Marsha Porter of Aurora, CO and Eileen Brooks of Clovis, CA. Adored grandmother of Leslie Porter, Christine Glidden, Bradley Porter, Shannon Gonzales, Benjamin Freeman and Katherine Brooks-Pugh. Cherished great grandmother of Meagan Morvillo and great-great grandmother of Adrian and Christian Morvillo. A native of Salt Lake City, UT, aged 94 years. Marge is preceded in death by her parents; William and Myral (Cassity) Lyman and her sister; Catherine Lyman Grindstaff-Fittro. Reared in Salt Lake City, UT, Marge is a graduate of the University of Utah, Class of 1942. She had been married for twenty-two years and was employed as a Program Manager for the State of California for over twenty-three years, retiring in 1985. Marge was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
With her consistent zest for life and sharp intellectual abilities, Marge embarked on two new careers following her retirement. In the mornings she pursued her love of children and books, working as a librarian at an Elementary School in Northridge. In the afternoons she volunteered at the LDS Genealogy Library where she became an expert in tracing family history.
Marge was adventurous and enjoyed travelling. One of her favorite places was Yosemite, where she spent numerous summers as a Volunteer Worker.
She was a strong and loving mother and a proud, beloved grandmother, great and great-great grandmother. She cherished "every member of her family" and she will be remembered with great love by all.
Family and friends are invited to meet and attend the Funeral Service on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 10:00 A.M inside the Church of the Hills located on the grounds of Forest Lawn Memorial Park-Hollywood Hills (6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, CA, 90068). Interment; Tenderness Lawn Section. Reception following services. As an expression of sympathy, the family prefers memorial contributions in Marge's name be directed to the Yosemite Foundation (155 Montgomery Street; Suite 1104, San Francisco, CA, 94104).
