Norman Caleel Obituary

NORMAN E. CALEEL Aug. 15, 1913 - Sept. 20, 2005 Norm, (as family and friends knew him) a Burbank resident for 62 years, was an active community volunteer: Burbank Chapter American Red Cross, Disaster Preparedness Team, Blood Banks, with his personal donation of 174 Units, St. Joseph Medical Center Health Fairs, Flu Immunization Campaigns, Elk of the Year (Lodge #1497), Girl Scouts and Pony Tail Softball League. The Grinnell neighborhood families eagerly anticipated his Christmas holiday decorations and Halloween haunts. Bowling was his passion. With two leagues a week and a 175 average, he didn't slow down to one (the ICF Bowling League) until age 90. Although he didn't achieve his dream of building his own bowling alley in Burbank, he owned and operated two service stations (Shell and Chevron) at Alameda and Olive. In 1960, he built his shopping center, McDonald's and Donut Shop at Oli ve and Verdugo. Survived by his wife of 62 years, Catherine "Kitty" Caleel; daughters, Christy (Craig) Curtis, Leota (Dave) Bancroft, and Liz (Paul) Weiss; and granddaughters, Victoria and Madeline Weiss. Dear Caleel Family,

We got to know Norm through his daughter, Leota and was always impressed with his energy level and zest for life. He was obviously greatly loved and loved his family very much!

I will always remember how he greeted my 2 daughters with a huge smile and a hug! (from Michelle)

We're so sorry for your loss and pray that the beautiful memories you have will soon replace the grief you now feel. God bless!

I took care of Mr. Norman Caleel the last week of his life. Although restless and tired he was still graceful. He smiled to the end. I will always remember his nice smile and his kindness. I have never seen such love in a family. They all took really good care of Mr. Caleel. The daughters were WONDERFUL. I wish the best to his family.

Dear Leota and family, I was sorry to hear of the death of your father. I will always remember him cheering on the Perky Dots-ha what a name! Also those fun pool parties at your house-he was always there to walk me home safely-3 houses-ha. He was a great guy and I was sorry to hear of his passing, but glad that he had such a long lovely active life. My heart is with you all, I lost my dad last year and know the pain but also the joy of the great memories. Love ,Charlon PS I know we don't see each other ever but we will always be friends of spirit as we survived our growing up together.
