Vivian Edelman Obituary

Died on Sunday, February 4, 2018, at home in the arms of her loving husband, Raymond, of 60 years. Born on May 6, 1937, in the Bronx, New York, she was a few months shy of 81.

Vivian spent her childhood summers watching the Bronx Bombers play from the rooftop of her apartment building across the street from the old Yankee Stadium. She attended Boston University and Russell Sage College and earned a degree in history. She and Raymond began their family in New Haven, Connecticut, where Raymond was pursuing his PhD. in engineering at Yale University. They settled in Huntington Station on Long Island before moving the family to Woodland Hills, California, in 1974 where Vivian spent the next 43 years.

A dedicated mother and wife, the quintessential keeper of the home fires, Vivian was the most doting of grandmothers, who, with boundless joy, supported her grandchildren in all of their pursuits. Vivian also found the time and energy for a long and productive career in medical administration. She was a voracious reader and an enthusiastic world traveler. She enjoyed a glass of wine and a book at the end of the day surrounded by the fine art and funky tchochtkes she and Raymond collected over the years. Vivian's wit was keen and her wisdom depthless, and her humor and insight touched everyone around her.

Preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Ruth Goldberg, and her grandson, Sam Edelman, Vivian is survived by her husband, Raymond; her sons, Daniel (Joan) and Adam (Vickie); her daughter, Andrea (Mark); her grandchildren, Branden, Brenna, Josh, Ezekiel, Elijah, and Sophia; and her brother, Stephen.

Vivian requested to have her ashes scattered at sea. A formal celebration of Vivian's life will be announced at a future date.
