Jewell Ann Hill January 7, 1930 - August 4, 2018 Rancho Bernardo Jewell was born in St. Louis, MO to Julius and Martha Roberts. She was brought up in a loving family with both sets of grandparents playing a big role in her life. Jewell was active in school and church events. In high school, she was sports page editor of the school newspaper, as well as belonging to many clubs. She was Valedictorian of her class and went on to attend Washington University in St. Louis. She met her future husband, David W. Hill, at Southwest High.Dave played professional baseball until he was drafted into the Korean War. They married shortly before he left. After basic training, Dave was selected to go to OCS where he earned his 2nd lieutenant stripes. He and Jewell spent the remainder of the war in Denver, CO, where he was a finance officer and she worked for Time/Life Magazine. Shortly after returning home, they began their family. David, Diane and Nancy were born in St. Louis, before Dave's career with the CIA took them overseas to live in four different parts of the world...Beirut, Lebanon; Vienna, Austria; Bangkok, Thailand; and Bonn, Germany. Needless to say those were years of great adventures, seeing the world up close and personal. Upon Dave's retirement, they moved to Cupertino, CA. Jewell's mother came to live with them after the death of her husband. In 1988, they moved to San Diego. Jewell's mother and husband died in 1995, within 4 days of each other.Jewell was active at Incarnation Lutheran Church of Poway. She belonged to the Piecemakers, a quilting group, was church librarian for 8 years, was an Incarnation Friend and participated in the Ruth Circle Bible Study group. She is survived by her children; granddaughter, Sarah; daughter-in-law, Ann; son-in-law, Miles; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Lee Feiste; nephew, Jim; and niece, Jennifer.Memorial services will be held at the Incarnation Lutheran Church on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. Jewell was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
