Sara Ann Sandy' Raddatz December 22, 1940 - August 29, 2018 LA JOLLA After being born in La Jolla, California, on December 22, 1940, Sara (Sandy) Ann Raddatz peacefully left earth on August 29, 2018, called to great golf game in heaven. Among her belongings was found a resume that Sandy created in 2006. Here are the words she used to describe herself:Athlete From an early age, Sandy loved sports tennis, swimming at the Cove, field hockey, beach volleyball, skiing and golf. Most recently, she went to the Senior Olympics and won countless medals in pickle ball.Needlepoint Artist Sandy designed and created fabulous Christmas stockings and ornaments, pillows, eyeglass cases, and other colorful and intricate gifts for her family and friends.Superior Volunteer and Leader She donated her time to Scripps Memorial Hospital, University of Colorado, Junior League, Children's Hospital, Breast Cancer Fund, Bible Study Fellowship, San Diego County Grand Jury, San Diego City Schools, American Red Cross, and Las Patronas. She led some of these organizations with her signature efficiency.Mother She had three daughters with her husband of 32 years, Tom Henry: Kirsten Henry Fox, Sara Ann Henry and Allison Marie Henry. She was very protective of her girls, and from behind her camera, she watched every one of their volleyball games, equestrian competitions and school plays.Gardener Nurturing her plants filled her soul. Her gorgeous, xeriscaped yard was once featured on the annual Mission Hill's Garden Walk.Fixer Upper and Gadget Lover If MacGyver had had a sidekick, Sandy would have been a shoe in. Not only could she fix almost anything in a house, she loved tools. Every Christmas, her loved ones unwrapped gadgets like a dryer vent brush, combo flashlight/radio/compass, or battery-powered thermometer with indoor remote. She's reacquainting herself in heaven with her parents, Harold and Maude Raddatz; sister, Gretchen Duff; and many doted-on pets. She is survived by her daughters and her grandchildren: Alyssa von Puttkammer Fiedler, Mitch von Puttkammer and Hillary Fox. She struggled in her last years with dementia, which she approached with candor and a sense of humor.
