Charlotte Mae Buchanan June 23, 1926 - December 12, 2017 La Jolla Charlotte Buchanan, age 91, passed away from a series of strokes. She was born in Janesville, WI to Nina and Frank Osterman and grew up in Beloit. Charlotte attended Stephens College and UCLA, there she earned a BA in psychology and got her teaching credentials. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi, maintaining lifelong friendships with her sorority sisters. In 1950, Charlotte met Navy Pilot, Douglas Grayson Buchanan. After he left the Navy, they moved to Santa Monica Canyon where they raised their three daughters. In 1975, they moved to La Jolla, CA. They were married 50 years, until Douglas passed away in 2001 from leukemia. Charlotte was an avid reader and crossword enthusiast. Her neighbors would remember her daily walks to Calumet Park, where she loved to watch the dogs. Her unrestrained laughter was a gift that will be missed by friends and family. Charlotte was a member of St. James by the Sea Episcopal Church for 42 years. The church was an important part of her life providing fellowship. Survivors include her 3 daughters: Sara (John) Lovendahl, Port Orford, OR, Andrea, (Horst Sarstedt) Buchanan, Bergish Gladbach, Germany; Monica (Dave) Starkey, La Jolla, CA; and granddaughter, Lauren Priya Buchanan Sarstedt. A memorial service will be held at St. James by the Sea, 743 Prospect St, La Jolla, CA on Saturday, January 27, 2018. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society or the San Diego Humane Society. Please sign the guest book online at legacy.com/obituaries/ lajollalight .
