Leo B. DeMeyer

Leo B. DeMeyer, age 92 of Grayslake, died Thursday, July 19, 2007 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He was born in North Chicago on September 20, 1914 to Isidore and Leonie (nee DeBoo) DeMeyer.

Leo was the founder and owner of Grayslake Feed Sales, established in 1940. From 1947 - 1961, he was a Grayslake Trustee, and from 1961 - 1965 he was the mayor of Grayslake. Leo served as a charter member and past president of the Grayslake Lions Club and a director and charter member of the Lake County Savings & Loan. For ten years he was involved with the Squaw Creek Drainage District and for twenty years he was involved with the Grayslake Fire Department. Leo was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, The Grayslake Exchange Club, the Grayslake Chamber of Commerce, St. Gilbert Catholic Church, and was a Boy Scout leader.

Survivors include his sons, Leo E. (Carol) of Grayslake, Thomas (Mary) of Wautoma, Richard (Marilyn) of Grayslake and John (Denise) of Johnsburg; his grandchildren, Jeffrey, Sarah, Dierdre, Garrick, Kathryn, Kristin, Brian, Karen, Nicole, Megan, Daniel, Mitchell, and Joseph; his great-grandchildren, Leo, Ivy, James, Aubrey, Maia, Isabella, Lewis, and Grant.

Leo is preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Marie); his four sisters; three brothers; and his aforementioned parents.

A funeral mass is scheduled for 10:30 AM, Monday, July 23 at St. Gilbert Catholic Church, 301 E Belvidere Rd, Grayslake, meeting directly at church. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville. Friends of the family may visit from 3 PM - 6 PM, Sunday, July 22 at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E Belvidere Rd, Grayslake, IL 60030.
