Every time I listen to music; travel on a road trip and think of some of my greatest moments and accomplishments I think of this man! He will forever be the greatest hero of my lifetime. He did so much to support his community and made experiences possible. I will always adore this man. Thank you for teaching me to read music and to be strong in my beliefs of all I accomplished in the musical world.

Dr. Alfonso Levy is and will always be my hero. Dr. Levy was the first person to discover I couldn´t read music. Yes, I had been playing my violin for several years (started age 3) when I joined our community orchestra (age 6) in performing the Handles Messiah. I was so determined to join this orchestra I memorized the parts I was playing. Being barely more than a handful of years old I and my older brother were allowed to join. Through this experience I discovered Dr. Levy could teach me how to play the piano. He taught me to speak up child because if I speak softly and I´m wrong I´ll never know so I can improve. He assigned so much work between our weekly lessons knowing I could never memorize it all so he patiently listened to my music while I struggled with learning to read music. Around 1989 Dr. Levy wrote up a letter of recommendation for me to attend the music conservatory Interlocken Music Camp in Michigan. Whatever he said helped to open the door to attend a 9 week music conservatory camp to continue my musical studies. I later earned a full scholarship to return to this camp playing the viola. Dr. Levy echoes off all of my musical performances and abilities. He taught me music, music theory and taught me some about life too. I adore this man and always will. He is forever my hero. I performed and toured in Europe for three weeks and was invited to play with the London symphony. If he hadn´t allowed a young child whose feet couldn´t even reach the ground to join the community orchestra. I may have never learned to read music without these experiences. I am so blessed to have known this man and will continue to honor all he taught me in the music world and in life. May this incredible man RIP. With love and gratitude for his believing in me when nobody else would made a difference and saved my life. Deep gratitude and thanks for all I learned from him. He led an incredible life. Thank you Dr. Levy for loving me enough to be firm in his expectations while nurturing my talents in music. I love you always and speak of you often. You are forever My Hero.

Mr. Levy is still one of the finest men I have ever known; loved to hear him play, but honestly his personality was his greatest asset. Always had a greeting and a smile; I knew he was a great man even before I read the long list of his accomplishments. We were all blessed to have known him... looking for the day

Dr. Levy - It is because of you and your lovely wife, Mrs. Celestine Levy, that I turned out to be the man I am today. The both of you are in my Top 5 Teachers List of All Times (college and regular school). You will always remain in the hearts of Columbia County residents who ever had the pleasure of being under your leadership. Likewise, you will always be remembered as one of the finest educators Columbia County has ever had. Mr. Levy was the pied-piper of Lake City when I was a little girl in the late 60s and 70s. I loved participating in the community choir and singing every Christmas and Easter at Trinity under the direction of Mr. Levy with Ms. Hines on piano. Also, Mr. Levy trained us so well while playing in the band at Niblack Elementary. He brought out the best in all of us and I am forever grateful for him coming to Lake City and taking the time with us and so many more in the years that followed.

My wife Nancy and I have been blessed in so many ways for having known Alfonso for twenty years. During this time I have been the pastor of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and I can't tell you the number of times over the years that I would be sitting in my office and Alfonso would pop his head in the door and come in for a visit. We would always laugh, tell a joke or two; but in the midst of it all, Alfonso would ask about my family and encourage me in some way regarding my ministry. I will miss his humor and his heart for Jesus but I know he is in God's presence and one day we will be singing with him in heaven as we praise our Lord. God bless you dear family. Nancy and I regret that we are leaving for vacation this weekend so we will not be in attendance for Alfonso's memorial service, but we will be remembering you in our prayers.
