Sarah Reid Ferrier, age 85, of Lake City, FL. passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Haven Hospice. Sarah "Sue" Ferrier was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 30, 1935 to James Thomas and Kathryn Kirkham Reid, who already had one daughter, Kathryn Jo "Tassa" Reid (later George). She graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1953 and attended Indiana University in the music department, where she was chosen as one of the first eight women to expand the famous men's glee club, the Singing Hoosiers. As a Hoosier Queen, she was selected to join the Singing Hoosiers' USO tour for U.S. military personnel in Korea and Japan in 1956. Sue's love of music, passed down from both of her parents, continued in solo performances in churches and at McKendree College athletic games, as director of the children's choir at First United Methodist Church in O'Fallon, IL, in participation in community theaters and in many choirs, including the renowned National Christian Choir in Washington D.C. Sue worked for McKendree College (now University) in Lebanon, Illinois, the Department of Defense at Scott AFB, Illinois, and later for the award-winning Fairfax County Cable Channel 16 in Fairfax, Virginia, from which she retired. Sue had a strong Christian faith, believed wholeheartedly in the power of prayer, and she loved her Lord. She was active in many churches, participating in their music ministries and prayer ministries. Only the Lord knows the powerful impact she had on many people's lives. Most recently she attended Taft Full Gospel Church in Taft, TN, and Christ Community Training Center in Lake City, FL.
Sarah was preceded in death by her sister, Tassa George.
She is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Ferrier Shiver (Terry) of Lake City, FL and Susan Elizabeth Ferrier Sun (Timothy) of Pasadena, CA; her son, David Ferrier of Hahira, GA; 14 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a very special friend and prayer partner, Rebecca Hodge.
