BALDWIN -- Ted Douglas Kintner, 81, of Baldwin (formerly of Battle Creek), passed away on July 22, 2018, in the early morning hours at Cadillac Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Ted was born on Aug. 16, 1936, in Saginaw, the son of Fred and Naomi (Douglass) Kintner. Ted graduated from Lakeview High School in 1954. He also attended Western Michigan University. He met Patricia Aebli in high school and they were later married on Sept. 21, 1957, in Battle Creek Presbyterian Church.

They made their home in Battle Creek, where Ted worked for Clark Equipment Company for 30 years until his retirement in 1990. In retirement, they relocated to Baldwin, where Ted worked as a self-employed licensed contractor. He was a skilled builder and there are many homes and businesses Ted built or renovated in the Battle Creek and Baldwin areas. He was a former member of Ira Beck Lodge, No. 503, F. & A.M.

Ted is a veteran, having served in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He was very proud of his tour of duty on the USS Missouri BB-63. In 2007, he visited the USS Missouri, which is permanently docked in Pearl Harbor. During the tour, once it was discovered he was a former active duty crew member, he happily answered many questions about life on board a battleship, and received many expressions of gratitude for his service.

In his younger years, Ted enjoyed motorcycling, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing and boating in northern Michigan.

In addition to his wife of 60 years, he is survived by a daughter, LeAnne Kintner, of Conyers, Ga., formerly of Battle Creek. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Naomi Kintner.

In accordance with Ted's wishes, no service will take place.

The Verdun Funeral Home of Baldwin is assisting the family with the arrangements. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum in Battle Creek. Memorial contributions may be made to the ASPCA or a charitable organization of your choice.
