Butch Hilliard

Hello Christina. This is Butch Hilliard. I was Arnie's roommate freshman year at Cornell. We were also in Engineering Physics together. I do recall meeting you once or twice. I was back at Cornell this week and I happened to think of Arnie so I googled him. I was so sorry to hear he has passed. He was a very accomodating roommate and a VERY smart guy. Please accept my sincere condolences. So glad to hear of your large family. Here is a story you can pass on to them. I remember our Sr year. We were taking Quantum Physics together. When we sat down for the final exam, the professor passed out an envelope with our name on it with the instruction that we could accept the final grade in the envelope or actually take the exam and risk lowering our grade. I was delighted to take a B. Arnie was not happy with his A so he took the exam to raise the grade to an A+. Of course he succeded. I've had a good run. I worked for Westinghouse/Northrop Grumman for 38 years. I worked on the Apollo lunar program and then built high tech stuff for the Air Force. I was in marketing for a while and got to go to 40 different countries. Then I retired to teach AP Physics in a small private school in Maryland. Been there for 14 years. In 1983, I was elected into the Cornell Athletic Hall of Fame (lacrosse goalie). In 1989 I was elected into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame. I have 3 children and 7 grandchildren. Again, I'm so sorry that we lost Arnie so young.
