Melvin Dean "Mel" Wilfing
LANCASTER: Melvin Dean ("Mel") Wilfing, 75, of Lancaster, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013.
Mel was born August 25, 1937 in Wellsville, Ohio. He enlisted in the Marine Corp after graduating from Wellsville High School in 1956. After being honorably discharged in 1958, Mel attended and graduated from Ohio Valley Business College in 1960 where he met his wife, Patricia. The two were married July 15th, 1960. After a three year honeymoon in California that produced three sons, William Francis "Billy", Robert Dean "Bob" and Steven Michael "Steve", the two settled down long enough in East Liverpool, Ohio in 1963 to produce their fourth son, Timothy John "Tim". In 1965 the couple moved to Lancaster where Mel was employed by Anchor Hocking. The two built what would become the home they raised their boys. Two more sons would follow in the coming years, Daniel Patrick "Dan" and Patrick Joseph "Pat".
Mel is preceded in death by his son, Billy, his Father and Mother Frank and Leola, his brothers Charles and Bill. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, his brother, Robert Sherman "Bob" (Joan), his sons, Bob (Liz), Steve (Julie), Tim (Lisa), Dan (Rita) and Patrick (Misty), his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
A private showing at Sheridan Funeral Home will be followed by a grave-side service on Tuesday, March 26th at 11:00 AM at Floral Hills Memory Gardens conducted by Pastor Larry Kirby.
