NEWARK - A funeral service for Dale E. Miller, 94, of Newark, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Brucker and Kishler funeral Home, with Pastor Wally McLaughlin officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St. Newark.

Dale passed away at his home on May 13, 2019. Dale was born November 7, 1924 in Basil, Ohio to Harold F Miller and Helen (Blauser) Strode. He was a graduate of Pleasantville High School class of 1942, and was the last surviving member of his graduating class. He served in the Army during WWII where he was awarded a Purple Heart. Upon retiring from the WT Grant Company he became active in many veteran's organizations. Dale was a life-time member of the Disabled American Veterans, AmVets, and VFW. Dale served as a Veteran's Service Commissioner for thirteen years, retiring at the age of 90.

As a member of the Newark City Parks and Recreation Committee, Dale was instrumental in bringing the Purple Heart Monument to Licking County which is placed in Veteran's Park.

In 2011 Dale was appointed to the Board of Directors for the Veteran's Museum in Newark, a building that memorializes veterans of all wars. In addition to his dedication to veterans, he was also an avid fly fisherman.

Dale was the last surviving founding member of the Land of Legend Fly Fishers Organization. He enjoyed teaching others fly tying and rod building and was known for his building of custom fishing rods.

For over twenty-five years he co-chaired the annual Senior Citizen's Fishing Derby reaching out to local seniors and each May enjoyed participating in the Dale Miller Trout Derby at TJ Evans Park.

In 2007 Dale was inducted into the Senior Citizen's Hall of Fame, being nominated by the Licking County Aging Program.

Dale is proceeded in death by his first wife, Pauline, and his wife of 67 years, Norma, who passed away May 10, 2019, and half-sister, Cora Mae Wright.

Dale is survived by a daughter, Sondra Barton of Newark, a son, Kim Miller (Jennie) of Northport, AL. Grandchildren, Marcus Miller of Poteau, OK, Ami (Tony Glancy) of Newark, and Sarah (Matt) Kizzire of Northport, AL, a niece Kimberly Wright Weaver of Pickerington, and several cousins.
