Serena Marie (Beatty) Gatwood

LANCASTER - Serena Marie (Beatty) Gatwood of Lancaster, OH, age 94 , passed peacefully into the arms of her loving Savior Jesus Christ on April 2, 2021 at the Pickering House in Lancaster, Ohio surrounded by the love of her family. "Renee" was born on March 6, 1927 to her late parents Raymond and Edith (Frazier) Beatty. She was married to her loving husband John W. Gatwood for 41 years before his passing in 1990. In her later years, she resided at the Buckeye Care and Rehab Center where she was loved by all of the staff.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Esther Keller, Kate George, Ernie Young, Margie Williams; brothers, Harold Beatty, Roger Beatty, and her step mother, Mary (Gatwood) Beatty, along with son in law, Dennis Blankenship, daughter in law, Renee Gatwood, two grandchildren, two great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Living siblings include Tommy Beatty, and Josephine Beatty (Muck).

Left to hold her memory dear are her six children, Joyce Blankenship, Nancy (Robert) Reeves, William Gatwood, John (Cheryl) Gatwood, Deborah (Gene Snoke) Schwalbach, Pamela (Fred) Bradford, along with 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Serena had so much love for her family and truly enjoyed life. She loved her music, car rides, gardening, and OSU Buckeye Football. She made everyone around her laugh and loved to laugh herself, and always put the wants and needs of others before her own. She will truly be missed by those she has left, but we celebrate her new everlasting life in Heaven.

Funeral Service will be held Thursday, April 8, 2021 at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130. A live broadcast of the funeral service will be hosted on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. on the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home and Crematory Facebook page. In accordance with state mandates, COVID protocols including facial coverings and social distancing will be followed.

Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may visit Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
