Shirley Mae Cox Childress, 77, of Buffalo, Kentucky departed this life Sunday September 9, 2018 at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, surrounded by her family.
Shirley was a Christian by faith and she was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Shirley was a licensed beautician, bookkeeper for Farm Bureau, tax preparer, Kentucky Colonel, member of The Larue County Board of Education and a Notary Republic.
Shirley was born February 8, 1941 in Campbellsville to the late Jeremiah and Virginia Coleman Cox.
Shirley was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jeremiah and Virginia Coleman Cox and one sister, Margaret Redman.
She is survived by her husband, of 55 years, James Childress, of Buffalo; one son, J.J (Bonnie) Childress of Buffalo; two sisters, Dora Lee (Lewis) Waggoner and Julie Ann Colvin all of Campbellsville; three grandchildren, Chole Childress, Chelsea Henderson and Josh Brown and three great grandchildren. She was also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services for Shirley Mae Cox Childress will be held Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the William R. Rust Funeral Home Hodgenville Chapel with Brother Shannon McCubbins officiating. Burial is to follow in the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 10, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. and continue on Tuesday after 8:30 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
