May 30, 1938 - April 29, 2016 Mother, grandmother, wife and friend, our beloved Roberta passed away after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Born in Chicago, Roberta moved to Los Angeles as a child and attended Beverly Hills High School followed by USC Dental School and later, Loyola Law School. She lived in Malibu, moved to Santa Monica and spent her last years in Cheviot Hills. Roberta was originally a dental hygenist before becoming a lawyer which led to a lengthy and satisfying career as a LA Superior Court Commissioner. She was the matriarch of our family and we will never stop missing her laughter, her joy, her enthusiasm and her love for everyone who was lucky enough to come into her world. Survived by sons Ben (Lilli), Joshua (Bradon), beloved grandsons Mason, Spencer, Vincent and a new boy on the way. Services will be held at Hillside Memorial Cemetery, Monday May 2 at 3:00pm.

I just saw this notice and am greatly saddened to hear of Roberta's passing. She and I did felony trial work in Los Angeles when she was taking appointments. Her enthusiasm and positive attitude toward a job that few of her peers seemed to welcome was so wonderful that I like to think it lead to a wonderful friendship which I regularly recall. I am so sorry that she is gone.

I first met Roberta while a law student at Pepperdine. What a wonderful person!!! Later, I ran into her after her appointment as an Administrative Law Judge. I had already been sworn into the California Bar but had just been granted entrance to the Nebraska Bar (my home state) and was looking for someone to swear me in. I mentioned this off-hand to Roberta (not thinking of her as a judge) who had asked me how things were going. She immediately offered to swear me in -- and did so minutes later in the copy room where I ran into her. She will be missed -- her kindness and care for others will always be a big part of her legacy.

I am deeply saddened that we have lost a wonderful woman and compassionate judicial officer. It was always a pleasure to appear before Commissioner Lee. I always knew I would get a fair hearing. On a personal note, it always warmed my heart to walk into her courtroom and be acknowledged with a smile and a pleasant good morning. She will be missed! My condolences are with her family at this time.

Roberta was one of the most kind and compassionate people I've ever met. Always full of laughter and grace. Two weeks ago during one of my most dark times, she called me to check on me. I'll never forget it. She was so sick yet she still found the strength in her heart to care for others. She will be missed by all who knew her.
