March 11, 1929 - September 1, 2017 Ron was born and raised in Los Angeles to Pauline and Morris Barnett. He was always proud of his early Los Angeles family and did much research into the many family members who were professionals in the early part of the 20th century. He was a graduate of Los Angeles High where he was senior class president. On to UCLA for his bachelor's degree and then eventually his master's in International Relations from USC, but always a loyal UCLA man. Intrigued by his father's many stories of distant lands he always wished to become an importer, and so he did. After learning the trade as an employee of an importing firm he went on to establish his own importing business, R. A. Barnett & Co. He imported steel pipe from Japan and Korea and was the first to do so after WWII. He spoke to many Rotary Clubs and private clubs on International Relations and Economics sponsored by the L.A. Chamber of Commerce. He met and married Connie Goodman and they had three wonderful children, Leslie, Neal (Wendy) and Kathleen (Glenn). They in turn produced four amazing grandchildren, Jeffrey and Lindsay Barnett and Nicole and Morgan Feig. Ron taught International Economics at UCLA Extension School for some years. Ron eventually wrote a book about his father's adventures being forced to traverse the entire Siberian area of Russia from west to east as a 17-year old young man. It is called "The Reluctant Tourist." Ron had many hobbies and gourmet cooking was a passion. He took cooking lessons and eventually gave them. He then decided to bake decorative cakes and made three and four tier wedding cakes for all three of his children and friends' children's weddings. Then making chocolates became his next love. Friends wanted him to open a candy shop they were so excellent. Another friend encouraged him to run for the newly formed Junior Board of Trustees. There were 7 to be elected out of 144 running. The L.A. Times endorsed 14 and Ron was one of them. He didn't win though-campaigning against Jerry Brown was just too difficult. He loved travelling with Connie to distant lands and biking was his weekend exercise.
