Lewis Hemphill Obituary

1924 - 2013
Formerly a resident of Southern California, passed away on May 30, 2013 in Meridian, ID, at the age of 88. Mr. Hemphill was born in 1924 in Los Angeles. He served for two years in the US Army in France during World War II. After the War he attended UCLA to earn his Bachelor and Master degrees in business administration. After graduation, he worked for IBM from 1950 until his retirement in 1988. During his career at IBM he and his wife, Roberta lived in Paris, France for three years.
Mr. Hemphill is survived by his wife of 48 years, Roberta Nelson Hemphill; his daughters from his first marriage, Leigh (Rich) Basley of Caldwell, ID; Cynde Hemphill of Hingham, MA; and Lisa Hemphill (David Wilkinson) of Hingham, MA; his grandchildren, Brian (Jessica) Quick of Green River, WY; Robert (Nikki) Quick, of Pocatello, ID; Sarah Wilkinson, of King City, CA; Collin Wilkinson of Hingham, MA; and Rochelle (Justin) Basley Bennett of Colorado Springs, CO; as well as four great-grandchildren, Abigail, Samuel, Sarah and Nathan Everett Quick of Green River, WY. He is also survived by his sister, Cynthia (William) Biggs of Santa Rosa, CA. Mr. Hemphill was predeceased by his grandson, Nathan A. Quick, of Kersey, CO.
A celebration of his life was held at Cremation Society of Idaho on June 25. If anyone wishes to make a donation in his name it can be sent to Friendship Home in Hingham, MA. Please contact Lisa Hemphill for their information.
