Edward Blau Obituary

August 3, 1922 - January 31, 2017 Edward Blau died peacefully at his home in Los Angeles on January 31, 2017, surrounded by his family. Ed was born in the Bronx, New York on August 3, 1922. His parents emigrated from Hungary in the early 1900s and ran a successful neighborhood bakery. He excelled at school from an early age and graduated from City College of New York with a degree in Business Administration. During World War II, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, and was proud to achieve the rank of First Lieutenant. After serving in the Army, he graduated from Harvard Law School, class of 1951. His career began with the MCA talent agency in New York, where he worked closely with the legendary Lew Wasserman. He then drove across country to LA and became a prominent entertainment attorney, becoming a partner at a prestigious law firm before eventually branching out on his own. His clients include many luminaries from the world of entertainment. However, a sampling includes: the writer Henry Miller, Steve Allen, Fred Astaire, Bobbie Darin, Rock Hudson, Dennis Hopper, Jerry Lewis, Rowen and Martin, Siegfried and Roy, Dionne Warwick, the Magic Castle, Jerry Mathers, and Ralph Edwards Productions. He had represented the legendary Johnny Mathis for over 50 years. He received an honorary award from the Caucus for Television Producers, Writers and Directors for his dedication to the organization. He always enjoyed mentoring junior attorneys, many of whom later became successful entertainment figures. He loved to regale friends with stories and jokes, and approached every challenge as an adventure. He enjoyed his daily newspaper, watching movies at the Academy of Motion Pictures, playing tennis, and playing with his grandchildren. Ed will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Ed was very proud of his children and all their accomplishments. He enjoyed sharing in their adventures and hearing about their successes as well as their struggles. His family turned to him for counsel and love. Ed is survived by his wife, Rita, children, Gary, Roni and Sharon (Scott), cherished granddaughters, Ariella and Elana, and sister, Rita Goldstein, and nephew and nieces.
