Stephanie Pelentay Obituary

Stephanie Ann, was born on January 30, 1954, into the loving arms of her parents, Stephen and Annice Pelentay. She was the eldest of five and took the role of first born quite seriously. Stephanie was followed by siblings, Paul, Annice, Mary and Christie. She was very accomplished in delegating tasks and was awarded the nicknames, The Commander-In-Chief, The General, and The Queen. All appropriate, as she was extremely capable of completing any job quickly and with perfection. Education was an integral part of Stephanie's life. She attended Saint Elizabeth's grammar school, Alverno High School, and her beloved, University of Southern California (USC). Stephanie became part of the spirit of USC participating in many university functions and all major sporting events. She traveled extensively to watch her USC Football Team play at Notre Dame, the Orange Bowl, and numerous other venues. Additionally, she was a season ticket holder of Trojan Basketball games, held at the Galen Center. She was their loudest cheerleader and biggest supporter. Recently, she became a member of Trojan Affiliates. Stephanie bled cardinal and gold, Trojan colors. Stephanie continued to support USC with her time, talent and treasure. Stephanie's education propelled her into a very successful career in the insurance industry. She worked for forty years in this profession. Stephanie spent thirty years at Marsh & McLennan Companies, where she advanced to the position of Senior Vice-President in the Transportation Division. Although she excelled at her job, she especially valued the relationships she built with her clients and co-workers. Stephanie appreciated her education, and work, but it was her family and friends that were always at the center of her heart. She loved her friends, shared her life with her siblings, but it was her niece and nephews with whom she especially enjoyed spending time and playing the role of Auntie Mame. Stephanie was an avid theater-goer, concert enthusiast, foodie and was always looking for ways of having fun. Her generosity knew no boundaries and she shared her good fortune with others. Highlights of her kindness were taking those she loved on trips, including an African Safari and Mediterranean Cruises. Stephanie made friends wherever she went, truly making the world her oyster. The people that Stephanie met along her life's journey truly enriched her life. Stephanie was an international/world traveler but also enjoyed her time in the wine country, jet-setting to New York or Chicago. However, she always appreciated returning to her Pasadena home. Stephanie was a two-time cancer warrior. She fought a valiant battle. Through her illnesses she taught us how to "Fight On To Victory". She loved and lived life to the fullest. Stephanie is pre-deceased by her parents. She is survived by her siblings, Paul, Annice, Mary, Christie; brother-in-law, John; niece, Jillian; nephews, Justin, Paul James, Christian; extended family, and countless friends. The family is grateful to all of the caregivers, her "Royal Court of Nurses", the outstanding doctors and staff of Keck Medical Center of USC - Pasadena, Huntington Hospital and Mission Care Center, for their compassionate care and support. Services will be held Saturday, November 5, 2016. The Rosary will be at 12:15 pm followed by her Funeral Mass at 12:30 pm. Both services will be held at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 2640 E. Orange Grove Blvd., Pasadena. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center in memory of Stephanie Pelentay. Donations will support research of the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. Please make checks payable to "USC Norris" and write in the memo: Stephanie Pelentay Memorial Gift. Checks can be sent to the family and/or directly to the USC Norris, Development Office, 1441 Eastlake Ave., Suite 8302, Los Angeles, CA 90089. I am a Marsh employee in Cleveland, Ohio and had the privilege of working with Stephanie over the past two decades. She was always willing to assist no matter where in the country. I thought you'd like to know how many people across the country she touched.

Dear Pelentay Family,
I am so saddened to learn of Stephanie's passing. She was a true and loyal friend. Seldom in a lifetime does one have the honor of knowing someone so kind, generous, caring and fun to be with.
I met Stephanie when she was a casualty broker at Marsh (M&M) when Marsh was located at 720 Olive in Seattle in the late 1980s. We stayed in touch over the years as our careers took us to different places. Mine to NY and Stephanie's to CA. I remember when Stephanie first shared with us her diagnosis. She was on a business to NY. Several of us had gathered for dinner at a Tribecca Restaurant. It was shocking at that time to learn of the devasting news. But, Stephanie was prepared to face the battle head on and was determined to overcome it. That was over 20 years ago. I know that in the time of remission Stephanie worked hard (still at Marsh). She lived and loved life to the fullest while enjoying the company of her family and friends. I will miss Stephanie's exuberant spirit and Joie de Vivre. Godspeed old friend.

So sad to hear if Stephanie's passing. Such a beautiful spirit of such warmth and giving nature. I worked with her at Marsh for many years. She will always be remembered for her friendly nature and wealth of information on many subjects. She will definitely be added to the USC Cheering squad in heaven and I will kindly remember her every time her team is playing. Rest with the angels now Stephanie.

What a beautiful fun loving, generous woman Stephanie was. Worked with her for many years at Marsh and had lost touch with her since I had moved on. She will be missed and every time I hear her USC team I will be sending a shout out to her in heaven where this angel will be in the cheering section. Blessings to her family who will miss her spirit.

Dearest Stephanie, You were the most amazing aunt anyone could ever hope for...I will always appreciate your love and generosity for Paul's and my children, Jillian and PJ. We will miss you terribly, and I know you are up in heaven, looking down on those you love, and making sure their guardian angels are doing their jobs! I only wish I could have been there by your side at the end, but please know I was there in spirit. I know you are in heaven with your mother, father, Aunt Ella, and all those that have gone before you. Wishing you all my love and prayers...

My heart is heavy to hear about Stephanie's passing. We met on a recent trip to Africa. She was accompanied by her two nephews and they talked about future plans to visit another continent together. I was sure that she would triumph over the cancer to realize that dream.

Stephanie was a trooper in the face of her daunting illness. She kept the severity of it to herself so that the wonder of the experience was not overshadowed by her illness.

Stephanie was lovely, kind, warm and brave.
In the very short time we knew one another she touched my life.

May she rest in peace knowing how very loved she was.
