Howard Jefferson Green Jr.

1927 - 2018

July 31, 1927 - February 3, 2018 A true and decent man left us on February 3rd. Born in Los Angeles on July 31st, 1927 at Methodist Hospital to parents Howard Sr. & Irma H. Green, Howard was a third generation Californian who attended El Rodeo School and Beverly Hills High School. Most proudly, Howard was a graduate of UCLA. His passion for Bruin athletics lasted through his final days. During WWII, Howard was assigned to Armed Services Radio, and his tour of duty took him to such exotic locals as Long Beach and San Pedro. After exploring different careers, Howard found success and satisfaction in the insurance industry. In 1971, Howard founded Howard-James Company, which he ran until his retirement in 1996. Howard is survived by his adoring wife and soulmate, Mitzi Werfel Green. Together they traveled the world, hosted countless dinner parties for which Howard did all the cooking, and enjoyed years of fun and laughter with friends and family alike. Howard loved cioppino and chocolate cake, London and Palm Springs, Shakespeare and dirty limericks, Doris Kearns Goodwin and John Grisham, Frank Sinatra and Artie Shaw, Rose Bowl swap meets and Rose Bowl games. Whenever he heard Judy Garland sing, it would make him cry. Along with his beloved Mitzi, Howard is survived by so many who will love and miss him forever. They include his sister Eleanor Green Levine (Dr. C.B. Levine), children Jeff (Lindsay Shields), Paul (Randi Frisch), Liz (Tom Regele), and Richard (Adena Smith), nephew Tom Levine (Kari Levine), and his precious grandchildren Jarred, Ian, Patrick, Lily, Kristin, and Mae. Service will be on Friday, February 9th at Noon at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to "UCLA Foundation- The Howard J.
