Helen Fong Obituary

Fong, Helen Liu
January 14, 1927 to April 17, 2005 Survived by sister-in-law, Lew Wong Chou Lan; sister, Betty Woo (Calvin); brothers, Hayward (Dorothy) and Citron Toy (Genny); and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins. She was a loving sister and "Auntie." Helen was a pioneer among Chinese women, who pursued an architectural career of 45 years after graduating from U.C., Berkeley in Urban Planning. Visitation will be held Friday, April 22, from 3-7 p.m. at Angelus Rosedale Cemetery chapel, 1831 W. Washington Blvd., Los Angeles (corner of Normandie Ave.). A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 23, 3:00 p.m. at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 663 S. Berendo St., (corner of Wilshire Bl.), Los Angeles. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in her name to the Chinese American Museum, 425 N. Los Angeles St., Los Angeles, CA 90012.

Growing up in Westchester near Pann's, I knew of Helen & Mr. Davis's work long before I met them. She was brilliant, elegant, and uniquely accomplished. It was a privilege to know her.
