Fr. Michael J. Hoolahan

1932 - 2018

Fr. Michael J. Hoolahan, CP, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 2nd, 2018. He was 85. His last days were spent at Santa Teresita Manor in Duarte, CA. Five Carmelite sisters and two priests were at his bedside as he passed. Fr. Mike was born on Dec. 9th, 1932, in Jersey City, New Jersey. He grew up in Chicago, IL, and joined the Passionist Religious Congregation in 1955. He was ordained a priest in 1961. He obtained a Masters degree in Library Science from the University of Michigan, and taught at the Passionist Seminary in Warrenton, MO. He was later Director of Students, Provincial Consulter, Provincial Treasurer, Local Superior, and Pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Chicago, IL. For the last twelve years he has served on the staff of Mater Dolorosa Passionist Retreat Center in Sierra Madre, CA, and assisted at Sts. Felicitas and Perpetua Parish in San Marino, CA. He was preceded in death by his brother David. He is survived by his brother Richard, two sisters–in-law, three nieces and three nephews. Viewing will be at Mater Dolorosa Retreat Center Chapel on Wednesday, June 6th, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, June 7th, at 10:30 AM, at St. Rita's Parish in Sierra Madre, CA.
