A. John Terrell Obituary
December 27, 1927 - December 31, 2017 In loving memory of Aaron John Terrell who died December 31, 2017, in Corona del Mar, California. John Terrell enlisted in the Merchant Marines during World War II and later went on to become a paratrooper, fighting with the 82nd Airborne. After his service, John attended University of New Mexico where he majored in business. He served as Governor Aide de Camp, and ran for the New Mexico state legislature. In 1962, John Terrell joined Norton Simon Industries, Fullerton, CA, and, eventually became the Director of Communications at the University of California, Los Angeles. There, he oversaw the largest installation of a privately-owned telephone switching system of Northern Telecom SL1. His team of telecommunication engineers used their telephone switching network to send packet messages over their landline computer system establishing the founding of the University of California "intranet" (UC internal data sharing). This innovation grew in complexity later became known as the Internet. John was active with the Lion's Club, The American Legion Yacht Club, his Eliot Jr. High class, Altadena, but his greatest success was the effort he placed into family relationships. John was the youngest son of Harry Evans Terrell and Elizabeth Emily Eaton born on December 27, 1927 in Altadena, CA. His siblings, Minnette Elizabeth Terrell and Harry Evans Terrell, Jr. predeceased him. John is survived by his wife, Elizabeth S. Terrell, their children, Patricia Elyse, Marilee Diane, John Scott and his wife, Carole. His grandchildren are Phillip Matthew Kopp and his wife, Ana Paula Kublinski-Kopp, Alexa Nicole Terrell, Bryce Jordan Terrell, Scottie Terrell Shelton, and Madeline Shelton. Three great-grandchildren, Enzo, and Lara Kublinski-Kopp, and Finnegan Sheldon remember him as do Valerie Aimes, Steven Scott and Susan Terrell, his nieces and nephew. A Memorial Service honoring the life of Aaron John Terrell will be held Sunday, January 14, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Pacific View Memorial Park Chapel and the Veterans' Memorial Garden, Corona del Mar, California 92625.
