February 10, 1923 - October 17, 2015 Achilles Z. Achilles ("Ace") was born on February 10, 1923 in Los Angeles, California. His parents moved their young family to Arcadia in 1926 when it was just a rural community, and he remained a resident there throughout his life. Achilles enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served in the North Atlantic during WWII. It was at his home port of Boston that he met the love of his life, Penelope Vlamos. They were married in 1947 and moved to California. After graduating from Woodbury College, he worked for the U.S. Treasury Department, and later opened his own tax accounting office. He was a member of the American Legion Post #285 where he served as Commander, was a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of the Al Malakiah Shrine. He will be remembered for his quick wit, love of people, and friendly personality. He is predeceased by his wife, Penelope, and daughter, Joanna; he is survived by his daughter, Fontaine Achilles Malisos, grandson, Achilles Malisos (Julia), great-grandson, Benjamin, and granddaughter, Samantha Malisos. Services will be held at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Los Angeles. Trisagion will be held at 7:00p.m. on Thursday, October 22, and the funeral will be held at 10:00a.m. on Friday, October 23, 2015. Interment to follow at Serbian United Benevolent Society Cemetery.
