Alfred Wells Obituary
March 1, 1909 - December 7 Alfred Floyd Wells, was killed in action on the U.S.S. Oklahoma BB 37 on December 7, 1941, at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1927, at the age of 17, and after 14 years of active service, he re-enlisted on August 28, 1941, serving on both the U.S.S. Arizona and U.S.S. Oklahoma. With forensic genealogy and DNA identifications and the help of Dee Dee King (Forensic Genealogist) from Texas, and family members: Darren A. Wells of Rockwell, TX, Christopher L. Wells of Allen, TX, and Christina M. Montes of Houston, TX, they were able to identify Alfred Floyd Wells remains through DNA and the family is now able to bring him home after 75 years. He was predeceased by his mother, Rose Brant Wells; his father and step-mother, Arthur and Eva Wells; his wife, Wanda Jean Nowakski Wells; his daughters, Charlene and Lorraine Wells; sisters: Louise Wells McCausland, Marjorie Wells Tracey, Lorraine Wells Konseck; brothers, Arthur Wells III and Wesley Wells. He is survived by his sisters, Virginia Wells Rhoades of Syracuse and Mary Lou Wells Schmelzer of Buffalo; and grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Services: 11 AM Saturday, June 11, at the Butler-Badman Funeral Home, Inc., 4504 W. Seneca Tpk., Syracuse, NY, with burial to follow in Onondaga County Veteran's Cemetery. Special thanks to Wayne and Michael Konseck and Ginny Yerdon, all of Syracuse, NY, for greatly helping with Alfred's arrangements. Also thanks to Congressman John Katko for a plaque honoring Alfred Floyd Wells.
